genoscoper.com is an independent site. It is not the official site of Genoscoper Laboratories Oy and is not affiliated with the company.
What the site covers
The site covers animal DNA testing and canine genetics: what gene tests for dogs, cats and horses can show, how results are read, how samples are taken and which inherited diseases breeders screen for. It has two parts:
- Guides written by the Genoscoper editors, in English and Finnish (Guides, Oppaat).
- Earlier pages and news of Genoscoper Laboratories, the Finnish animal DNA testing company, from 2010 to 2018: service and test descriptions, sampling instructions, research news and the MyDogDNA pages. They describe the company's services as they were at the time. Prices, contact details and services on them are historical, and nothing can be ordered through this site.
Editorial standards
- Sources first. Facts in our guides come from primary or authoritative sources: the OMIA database (Online Mendelian Inheritance in Animals, University of Sydney), university veterinary schools and laboratories, kennel clubs such as Suomen Kennelliitto and the Kennel Club, and peer-reviewed papers. Each guide lists its sources.
- No invented numbers. Figures such as breed frequencies or study results are quoted from the source and attributed. Where sources disagree, we say so.
- Not veterinary advice. The guides explain how tests and inherited diseases work in general. They do not diagnose conditions or recommend treatments. Decisions about a particular animal belong with its veterinarian.
- No sponsored content. We do not sell tests, and the guides do not recommend specific laboratories or products.
- Corrections. If you find an error, write to us and we will check it against the sources and correct it.
Who writes the guides
The guides are written and checked by the Genoscoper editors. Each guide shows its publication date and is updated when the underlying research or kennel club rules change.
