Genoscoper Laboratories provides no longer test services for feline blood group and DNA analyses from the beginning of September onwards. The company's cat testing services have been transferred to Movet Ltd.
Genoscoper Laboratories has provided feline tests, including DNA marker based parentage testing, serological and DNA-based blood group analyses and rapid immunological tests for infectious diseases such as FeLV and FIV. The transition is based on the company's decision to focus primarily on testing services for dogs, on the comprehensive assessing of the canine genome.
To ensure the continuity of cat DNA testing, the services of Genoscoper Laboratories will be transferred to Movet Ltd. Movet is a Finnish veterinary diagnostics professional that serves veterinarians, but also animal owners and breeders. Movet's wide range of test services and its cooperation with numerous laboratories provide comprehensive tools for the demanding needs of all customers. In addition to the required tests for breeding (blood group, FeLV/FIV), Movet provides cat breeders also with recommended health tests for import cats (eg. PCR-studies) as well as a number of tests fr assessing genetic diseases and inherited characteristics.

DNA Blood Grouping and Serological Blood Grouping
Cats have blood groups A, B and AB. It is very important to know the cat's blood group in case it needs to have a bloodtransfusion or if the cat is having offspring. Abnormal blood group type may even cause the death of a cat. Prior to mating, it is good to know the parents' blood groups. Mating B-female with A-male often leads to complications. Kittens should be weaned from mother for the first 16 hours and fed with milk replacer to prevent death. Blood groups in cats have a special feature of the A blood group dominance over other types.
Blood group tests can be performed either serologically from EDTA blood or DNA-based from EDTA blood or cheek swab sample. Serological test separates all blood types: A, B and AB. DNA-based test shows if there is a recessive blood group B. This is important to know, because two cats with blood group A can have offspring that have blood type B. B is a recessive blood group and A is dominating blood group. DNA blood group test DOESN'T GIVE A RELIABLE TEST RESULT FOR RAGDOLLS, SIBERIAN CATS AND EUROPEAN SHORTHAIR CATS. These breeds can only be tested with serological blood group test.
